Gael Force Success’
Team Accelerate, adventure racers who wear Brooks Cascadia, have a tough race at the Gael Force event in Ireland …
With the best of the Irish and British Teams’ competing it was clear from the moment we set foot in Ireland that this was going to be a fast and furious race. It was also going to be tough and as a result the TV coverage was unprecedented for the event – so Team Partner Fleeces were the order of the day!!
It was going to be three days of non stop racing around the Western Mountains of Ireland, taking in some of Ireland’s finest scenery – ‘To be sure, to be sure’.
TV
We arrived with the TV crews waiting and Adam Haynes was whisked away for an hour long interview. This was followed by the TV crew interviewing the Team about their equipment and how we used this ‘latest technology’. It is fair to say that every sponsor was mentioned in some way (from communication to marketing and to BioAcceleration Technology and sports nutrition) and often with ‘live’ kit in the Team’s hands. Communication and how we work with our sponsors was also discussed. Let’s hope it all makes it onto the TV screens.
The Race…
The race started late on Friday afternoon and Team Accelerate flew out of the blocks. A 6 mile bike ride was followed by a quick change and a punishing race to the summit of the 763 meter high mountain of Croagh Patrick ensued. They took this summit as if it was a fell race – at full running pace. This set the standard for the next three days.
The event organisers could not believe the speed that the leading Teams raced away at, as they were nearly caught out by not having check points in place.
The race continued at speed. Team Accelerate unfortunately made a costly mistake and this cost them the challenge for the 2007 Title. Yet as the race wore on they seemed to get faster and on the final leg they produced a blistering finish to get themselves on to the podium and clearly the fastest time for that day’s activity.
For two members of Team Accelerate it was there first time racing this distance – three days and 200kms plus. They performed admirably, never giving up and racing the whole event at break neck speeds. For the Team as a whole it shows we continue to be on the right track and our planned development plan is working. With a little better luck and the learning from this event to take us forward, Team Accelerate can only get better.
With Thanks…
The competing Gael Force Team has asked me to pass on their thanks for the support received from all the Team Partners who have made this journey possible. You have all most definitely eased the way ensuring that our communication and planning before the event was at it’s best and for the supply of kit and equipment that made things lighter, more comfortable and in helping to ease those aching limbs at transitions.
Well done to all the competitors from Team Accelerate, a superb effort all round and a monumental push on the last day to ensure a podium position
